One of the many reasons I love what I do

Got this email a few minutes ago from a friend of mine from my and Katie's couples' group at church (basically a group of people our age who are married). Hearing such things is worth more than any paycheck anybody could ever give me. If only such emails could pay bills:

One of my friends called me today and was all pumped about wanting me to train for a triathlon with him.  He was saying that he had a friend who has done them before and he could help him train.

I told him that one of my friends just finished the WAC triathlon and we could get some pointers from him.  He said, "Did your friend say how it was."  I said, " I haven't talked to him about it, but he is a writer and I read about his experience in the newspaper today."  He said, "SHUT UP! I was reading the paper today and his article is what inspired me to attempt a triathlon!"

I thought you might want to know that you have inspired someone.

Keep writing!

So freakin' cool. So humbling....but man, so cool.

Well, you inspired me too. We've been pretty much a week apart on training and reading your blog was expressing what I felt (although I was totally ok with the speedo jammers). I just finished my first Triathlon this weekend in Kemah, TX (just southwest of Houston). I kept thinking along the ride, if this was going to live up to your expectations. I was enjoying every second of it. I was concerned you had painted yourself into a corner in terms of having to finish it. It looks like it's turned out well. Good luck from here. I hope you keep at tri's, but would understand if you can't get it to fit in. Stay fit somehow though. I can't express how much I regret times in my life where I let go of myself and it took a long time to get it back. Being of fit body helps in lots of things in other departments. I'm going to stay on this path a little while longer if y'all don't mind. Cheers.

Thanks lokibeat. That's awesome, and congrats on finishing your first triathlon!

Thanks for tagging along throughout this crazy journey. I'm definitely going to try to find a way to stay in triathlon. Good on ya for sticking with it. Stay in touch!
