Obama fundraising speech dissolves momentarily into high school chanting match; nobody wins

So, while President Barack Obama was giving a speech at a fundraiser, some Tea Party folks disrupted the whole thing with an outburst, chanting “Don’t ask! Don’t tell!”

Only making matters worse was that, as Obama tried talking down the protestors, his supporters started responding by chanting, “Yes we can! Yes we can!” – Obama’s signature slogan since beginning his run at the presidency back in 2008.

Soooo basically what happened here was the equivalent of rival high schools yelling at each other across the gym during a basketball game. Scenes of Hoosiers come to mind. “We’ve got spirit yes we do we’ve got spirit how bout you!!!!”

All I have to say is, what the heck, America? Is this really how low folks are stooping these days?

Look, I’m no activist and don’t much like getting involved in politics. That said, I’m also all about passion and fire and dedication to a cause. But it really bothers me that some people find this sort of activity acceptable. Is yelling at the leader of our nation in the middle of a fundraiser really the best idea people can come up with to get their point across?

I’m not saying that people should get arrested for it – although maybe they should – but people, please, get a clue. What good does that do? Really? All it does is make protestors look as dumb as those who oppose them want them to seem.

In the meantime, while I’m no Obama fan, I admire the way he handles stuff like this. I don’t really care which way the whole “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy goes, and I just hope that Obama gets through his presidency with the country intact. Because right now it feels like our seams are unraveling at alarming rates.

But I admire a man who can handle hecklers the way he did.

Well said Brandon! This kind of behavior is never okay! He needs our prayers not judgement.
