Why Chik-Fil-A Can Do What They Want
Print Gay people should have the legal right to get married.
Chik-Fil-A has the right to donate food to anti-gay-marriage groups.
Because it's America. Land of the free. Home of the brave. Etcetera.
So how does this make headlines? How does this make the front of CNN.com?
Recap: Chik-Fil-A donated free food—not money; food—to a group in Pennsylvania that just so happened to also stand against gay marriage. A few gay rights advocates made a fuss about it.
It's not Chik-Fil-A's best marketing move ever. But worth national media attention? Why?
Target donated money to a similar group a couple months ago. It blew over. I'm sure this will, too. I just don't get why it's such a huge deal. Because here's what's going on: Groups who want freedom are raising hell against companies exercising their freedom.
(Of course, those groups are also enjoying their freedom.)
To his credit, Chik-Fil-A president Dan Cathy responded as well as he could: "We have no agenda against anyone. While my family and I believe in the Biblical definition of marriage, we love and respect anyone who disagrees."
What do you think? About Chik-Fil-A? Gay marriage? The new spicy chicken biscuit?
