GoodSports: Rebellious Kid Disobeys Father, Buys Super Bowl Ring, Returns to Owner

The Fridge, in retirementYoung people. So rebellious, always doing what their parents say not to do. Like this kid Cliff. Despite his father's disapproval, the little dude, who is 10, spent $8,500 on William Perry's—as in "The Refrigerator"—Super Bowl ring.

But then he went all Sour Patch Kids—you know, sour, then sweet—and returned the ring to The Fridge. See, Perry has the debilitating Guillain-Barre syndrome, in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. He's also struggled with alcoholism, and he had to sell the ring after getting into a bit of a financial hole.

Cliff Jr.'s mom, Tracy, also has an immune disorder, multiple sclerosis.

Moved after hearing about Perry's tough new post-superstar life, Cliff Jr. bought the ring. A couple weekends ago, he and his dad flew from Pittsburgh to Chicago, where Perry was having an autograph session. Cliff told ESPN that Perry "looked really happy" and "sand 'thanks.'"

Kudos to you, good young sir. And please, let us know where you got $8,500 as a 10-year-old, because we went to get in on that.
