Intro

I'm Brandon Sneed. I wrote the book The Edge of Legend, I'm a journalist for GQ, ESPN The Magazine, and ESPN.com, and I edit HeyGoodCall.com

I live for great stories—finding them, telling them, living them. This is a running log of all that. It's a great life. (Read this, my short take on why stories are all that matter.)

Keep up with me on Twitter and Facebook

GoodSports, meet readers. Readers, GoodSports.

After years of randomness, I'm focusing this blog more on sports. It wasn't an easy decision until I made it, and then it just made sense. And for that I'm relieved, because I have been way overthinking this crappy little blog of mine. I'll still maintain the original "random blog," as it's become known around the Sneed household, and I'll post there occasionally. But for now, I'm turning my attention to sports.

We're calling it GoodSports. I totally dig how good sports can be. How they so often reach beyond the sport itself, how they give us stories we've never otherwise know, how fun they make life.

It'll be a work in progress, and the coolest thing about it is how you can get involved (click here for info on that). Here's the rough outline I expect to follow:

  • Sharing people's various experiences through and/or because of sports.
  • Highlighting things like MMA legend Randy Couture's G.I. Foundation, which helps get wounded soldiers back on their feet when they come home broke. Also, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bradie James's Foundation 56, which reaches out to women with breast cancer in honor of his late mother, who sacrificed treatment for herself to give her husband a chance to fight kidney disease.
  • Exploring awesome stories like that of Alyssia, the girl who finally started—and scored in—a middle school basketball game before losing her leg; and Brad, the high school placekicker who doesn't have any arms who rammed a runaway return man out of bounds to save a game.
  • Also, we'll still incorporate some of the usual goodies from brandonsneed.com, such as interviews—including the A Few Things About series—plus commentary from our ridiculous Jack Russell Terrier, Cooper, and his new little brother, Jack.

Yeah, it's going to be a good time. Like I said, I'm not sure exactly where it'll go. There's some saying about how headlights don't show you the whole road, but they show you enough to keep going. Well, here's me turning on the headlights. Glad you're along for the ride.
